Making Money Online – What does it take to be good at it?

Next time you visit any internet marketing forums take a look at the number of anguished cries for help. A few days of this and I wouldn’t blame you for believing that making money online is near impossible, and a very difficult task.

Not so…

Making money online is easy. The problem is most wannabe internet millionaires have been led to believe that they should be able to make a lot of money, very quickly and with no cost or effort.

In reality, most wealthy internet marketers have found a system of making small amounts of money which they duplicated over and over.

I doubt any hit the jackpot first time out, rather they found a way of regularly making $1 per day and duplicated it until they were earning $10 per day, then $100 per day… Their apparent quick success was not due to any secrets, but because they did not do all the work themselves.

There is a limit to what you can do in 24 hours, but once you start paying others to do the work for you, there’s no limit to what you can achieve. The key is to reinvest your profits back into your business to grow it until you are regularly making the profits you desire as a personal income.

Don’t for one minute believe that successful marketers never failed. They failed, and often, but they failed quickly. Their big secret was not dwelling on their apparent failures. As soon as their failure was apparent they moved onto another project or plan.

Which leads us to another secret…

People who successfully make money online don’t goof off after the latest money making schemes… They focus on their current project until it either fails, or succeeds. Only then will they take a look at a new scheme.

The next time you read about how an internet marketer went from deep in debt to near instant wealth, you can be pretty certain:

  1. They used to goof off after the latest money making schemes, and got themselves deeper into debt because of it.

  2. As soon as they decided to concentrate on one project and work on it until it succeeded, they realized how easy it was to make money online.

  3. Once they started duplicating their successful money making system, they rapidly went from earning piddly amounts to making enough money to make the average 9 to 5′er extremely jealous…

How to Use PLR Content to Increase Traffic to Your Websites

PLR content is a topic which causes many an argument… Some people love it, some hate it, but no matter which way you look at it, PLR content can be used to create an endless stream of traffic to your money sites.

What is PLR content?

In a nutshell it’s content you can edit as you wish to use for:

  • Websites
  • Newsletters
  • Articles
  • Ebooks

Let’s have a quick peek at the disadvantages of PLR content:

For a start, the top article directories will not accept any PLR articles. Their terms state they will not even accept rewritten PLR.

Most PLR is crap - by that I mean it’s badly written. Many marketers pay bottom dollar to non English speaking writers to create PLR products.

There is a constant debate over PLR content used on websites being trashed by search engine duplicate content filters. Some people are rabid about this!

Truth is, the only duplicate content that ever gets filtered are identical webpages. There are tons of ways to use PHP scripting to insert “other content” into PLR articles to make the resulting webpages appear unique.

OK, what about the good side of PLR content?

One of the major benefits is any supplier of PLR content will have done some research to figure out profitable topics. You can use any piece of PLR content as a framework to write your own unique content.

Re-writing PLR content tends to be a lot quicker than writing an original piece because the PLR, no matter how bad it is, will give you ideas for your own literary masterpiece.

If you have purchased good quality PLR content, you won’t have to do much re-writing, especially for ebooks and reports. Just add your own personality into the content and you have a product you can call your own…

I mentioned earlier that PHP scripts can turn any webpage built using a PLR article into something that is fairly unique. I wouldn’t use webpages built like this for my “money sites” but these sites make brilliant one way linking sites, especially if you host them on different servers and don’t use your own contact details when you buy the domains.

Basically you don’t want anybody to be able to trace these sites to you.

Why?

Because it’s against any search engines terms to manipulate your rankings. I like to think I’m creating a better user experience because the search engines do such a bad job of listing decent websites anyway. Let’s face it, your website is great and deserves to be listed…

But you don’t want them to know the linking sites are yours.

  • Don’t use your own contact details - I’m lucky I have a big family spread out all over the world who love the idea they now own websites…
  • Open a new NameCheap account for buying the domains (not in your name).
  • Open new hosting accounts for hosting the domains (reseller hosting accounts are the best, because each website has its own cPanel).
  • DON’T put Adsense on these sites - your Adsense account will tell Google these are your sites!
  • Promote affiliate products using new affiliate accounts.
  • Don’t view these sites in a browser which has toolbars installed - Toolbars collect info and send it back to the owners…

It might seem like a bit of a grey hat system, but who cares, if it gives your “money sites” a boost then do it!

If the PLR articles are good quality, some of these linking sites can actually feature very well in the search engines and be quite popular with visitors, so don’t be too quick to label them as spam sites…

To set these sites up, just get hold of a decent template and add the articles into it. Then use a script like RSS Gadgets to insert data from the RSS feeds of ClickBank, Amazon and eBay.

If you use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) you can configure the template so the RSS feed data is inserted into the text of the PLR articles (using div styling of float:left and float:right).

Finally, there is one very important point to remember when linking to your money sites…

You should only link to your website from inside the text of two or three articles. You must link to other authority websites from the other articles. If every out going link is to your websites, it’s pretty obvious the site has been built as a linking site.

How to Make $5,061.84 From a 12 Page Website

Can you tell me what’s wrong with this picture?

You spend hours writing and submitting articles every day in the hope of catching a few sales from the affiliate products you promote, and those articles only have a shelf life of a few weeks.

You write an article, submit it, get traffic from it for a few weeks and then…

Nothing!

So you write another article to replace it and the cycle starts all over…

Oh! Let’s not forget the fact you only get traffic if you’ve uncovered the right keywords for your article.

Talk about going nowhere fast!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking article marketing, some people earn a good income from it, but I can’t help the feeling with the endless cycle of writing and submitting articles you’re just spinning your wheels.

I hate to say this, but article marketing is for authors with vivid imaginations, and lot’s of time on their hands.

I don’t know about you, but I prefer to set a project up, promote it, and then move on…

If it works, fine. If it fails, oh well… Next!

The secret is to get sites up quickly. Don’t worry what they look like until they’re actually pulling in some cash.

If you don’t know how to quickly whip up profitable websites, Chris Rempel aka “The Lazy Super Affiliate” has come to your rescue with a real diamond in the rough.

His latest report explains what he calls the “Conduit Method” and is a simple way to create review websites.

Review websites have some cool advantages:

  1. You don’t have to sell anything - you just review stuff and link to it with your affiliate link.
  2. You don’t have to recommend anything - no getting into trouble for recommending crap - better yet, you don’t even have to buy the product in the first place :-)
  3. You don’t have to spend hours creating content - the product merchant and a few forums have all the content you need.
  4. You can build a review site like yesterday (quickly) - having a template to slap content into makes it quicker.
  5. If you want, you can use them to build a list - just make the first page an optin form.
  6. You can grow them into authority sites - hey, if it gets popular who wouldn’t want to grow it?
  7. They naturally get long tail searches from the search engines - the very nature of these sites means you’ll automatically be using all the right words.

Are they effective?

In a popular marketing forum Chris recently explained how one of his 12 pages sites which is three months old, still has a PR of zero, and has already earned $5,061.84 from only 4,151 unique visitors.

How many articles do you have to slave over to get those kind of results? You don’t want to know what it takes to earn that much through Adsense!

Personally, I prefer Chris’s Conduit Method - it suits my slap it up, promote it and move on mentality…

There’s Gold in Them Hills Newbies

No that’s not a callous thing to say… It’s the simple truth!

One of the biggest reasons why Internet Marketers fail is because they are targeting the wrong audience. The money is in teaching newbies how to become better marketers, and not trying to convince existing marketers you know better, or your latest ebook can show them a better or quicker way to make money.

Soren Jordansen has has an interesting post on his blog titled “The Average Internet Marketer Is What?“  in which he reveals the results of a survey conducted on the actual Internet Marketing results of a number of his readers/subscribers.

The results might not surprise the “old hands” in IM, but no matter how experienced you are,   Soren’s conclusion is something we all need to take notice of… I quote:

If you are in the internet marketing niche, your average subscriber (and/or website visitor) is:

  1. Fairly new to the game (less than a years experience)
  2. Working a full time JOB and doing IM part time
  3. Looking to replace the JOB with a full time IM income
  4. Not building a list
  5. And thus failing to make any money from IM

Mike Paetzold ran a similar survey, and lists his results on his blog in a post titled “Survey Says…“  His results are much the same as Soren’s and came to a similar conclusion.

Two points of interest in Mike’s survey were the results of what his readers/subscribers would like to know more about:

  1. List building
  2. Traffic

So you can stop looking for ideas for your next major product…

Just create a system which shows newbies how to:

  1. Find a hungry market.
  2. Build a list related to the market.
  3. Promote products to their list.
  4. Get traffic to their optin forms.

It’s all about building relationships with the newbies and showing them how to build relationships with their subscribers.

But bear in mind most of your newbies don’t have a ready supply of cash, and many will be maxing out credit cards. So don’t go hitting them at the outset with the most expensive services you can find (I know the commissions would be great) – sell your newbies the most cost effective services for their current circumstances, and then show them how to grow and upgrade.

As their experience grows (and their profits) so you move them through your sales funnel and onto more expensive services (for example dedicated servers and Aweber autoresponders).
